oregone

Just finished playing a game I hadn't played since 3rd grade...

Oregon Trail

to play, you need the AppleIIe emulator

I trailed it with several from the old gang. Here's how they faired...

ANDY - got dysentery early, then measles

CODY - got cholera and died

DUSTIN - got the measles, broke his leg, died

SISKOW - although he survived, he was by FAR the most careless... broke his arm in the first 50 miles, got cholera around mile 150, got over the cholera and caught dysentery around mile 275, was cured of dysentery and got cholera AGAIN 100 miles later, was bitten by a snake in Boise, and then broke his other arm as we were crossing into Oregon.

and last but not least....

BK - nothing. smooth sailing. probably by stealing rations out of everyone else's satchels.

Did you have any successful hunting outings? I found it was much harder than I remember. Such a cool game. I'm sure it's not the most educational but it's a good time waster for teachers to use. I mean, all you have to say it "it was a tough journey, you would proably get sick and die. now let's move on to world war I."

Actually, I was too successful hunting. I remember one time ending up with two bears, 3 dear, and a squirrel. The game said "You caught 820 pounds of meat! Unfortunately, you can only carry 100 back with you". I guess in the old days, making more than one trip wasn't invented yet.

notice that Siskow never got poison ivy. that means he found at least 10 discs.
